Where Time Stands Still: Urbex Photography

Album: Mijn werk • Feb 23, 2026

Urban exploration, often referred to as urbex, focuses on discovering and capturing abandoned locations. Old buildings, industrial spaces, and places where time has clearly left its mark create the perfect setting for this type of photography.

For this shoot, a location near Emmen was used that is legally accessible and available to rent for photography. This allows the unique atmosphere of urbex photography to be captured without using restricted or illegal locations.

During the shoot, the atmosphere of the environment played a central role. Peeling walls, weathered textures, and natural light entering through broken windows create a raw and distinctive visual style. The contrast between the location and the subject adds strong character to the images.

What makes urbex photography so unique is that every location tells its own story. Traces of the past remain visible in the space, allowing each photograph to capture a small piece of history.

By working with natural light, the textures of the environment, and the unique architecture of the location, the result is a series of images where decay, atmosphere, and character come together.
